‘Step On Step’ is a compilation of previously unreleased solo recordings that visionary American producer Charles Stepney made at his Chicago home, in the years before his tragically early death in 1976. Stepney’s lush orchestral arrangements for artists like Rotary Connection, Earth, Wind & Fire and Minnie Riperton have long been go-to sources for samples from hip-hop titans like MF Doom and Kanye West. You can hear that genius in embryonic form on these twenty-three demo-style tracks.

Idris Muhammad is an American jazz drummer and bandleader, and is one of contemporary music's most sampled drummers. The 1976 album 'House Of The Rising Sun' is likely to have contributed to his reputation in that regard. More than likely, the sampleability of the record boils down to Muhammad's sheer rhythmic tightness. We're sure he'll have never had any cymbals thrown at him in his time. Six long jazz-funk pieces adorn this LP in ultra-crisp quality, bringing out his tight, rubbery, nothing-more-nothing-less approach to the craft.
