Having spent the last two years working on upgrades on his top-secret Sheffield bunker, Luca Lozano is ready to return to action. By the sounds of it, he spent the time well, because Lozano 2.0: Music Man contains some of his most emotive and musically intricate material to date. For proof, check 'Imdoingthis4u', where subtle nods towards disco and funk are detectable amongst the chunky beats, weighty bass, sparkling electronics and raw riffs. There's a similarly warming and surprisingly dreamy feel to acid-flecked mid-tempo number 'Zusammen', while 'Beaten With a Beat Tool' sees him add fluttering female vocal samples and saucer-eyed, sunrise-ready chords to a rolling, Afro-influenced beat. Best of all though is 'A Higher Place', a druggy chugger that alternates between trippy, mind-altering intensity and surging, rave-ready positivity.

Black Patterns is a new alias from Lobster Theremin regular Snow Bone, launched to allow him to explore more obviously experimental techno pastures. In truth, Black Patterns Volume 1 is thoroughly in keeping with the fuzzy, distorted and generally bleak material that the hyped label has been putting out of late. Variously creepy, unsettling and freakishly intense, it's a collection that rarely steps back from the dusty darkness of the crumbling warehouses and basement spaces most readily associated with this style of balls-out techno. As a collection of club tracks, it can't be faulted. Given that it's DJs that will be most interested in its' throbbing charms, it would seem churlish to criticise.
Chez Damier and Ben Vedren's H2H project recovers from its intense Villalobos session last year with a brand new original and two exceptional remixes from Detroit OG Thomas Barnett. "Les Perdre" (which apparently is still in demo phase but sounds great to us) creates a superb spring effect in the groove with clever reverse textures before suddenly dropping into organ heaven mid way. Elsewhere we find Barnett adding a little warm analog spring to proceedings himself as he gives "Berlin Nights In Paris" and (fittingly) "Made In Detroit" his own titanium jack and subtle tendrils of acid.
