Following the huge success of 2018’s Kokoroko EP’ and the sensational Abusey Junction (100M streams and counting), Could We Be More’ is an expansive and ambitious debut album that speaks to the force of Kokoroko. Each song possesses the power to evoke memories and harness the feeling of home through music: from the psychedelic, funk-laden previous single ‘Something’s Going On’ to the congregational energy of today’s track ‘We Give Thanks’, ‘Could We Be More’ fuses together the African- London synergy which so naturally underpins the heat of Kokoroko’s identity.Available on 12” LP vinyl with a special limited edition light blue colourway vinyl exclusive to indie stores, as well as on digital, CD and cassette format. Early support for the album received by BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, Radio Nova and press outlets such as Clash, Trench, Line Of Best Fit, Crack Magazine, Loud & Quiet.
Caribbean-Belgian composer, producer, and musician Nala Sinephro us now based in London and for her debut album she gets incredibly personal. The long player marks a first release on the mighty Warp label and it is more than worthy of that accolade across a series of stunning ambient and jazz pieces. They are all interconnected and speak of an artist in deep thought and a state of inward reflection. The moods are devastatingly impactful whether melancholic or more hopeful with wistful sax sounds and gentle drums adding up to captivating worlds of sound.
It's always been tricky predicting what Firecracker Recordings will release next, though few would have expected an EP of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz from Berceuse Heroique, Nous and Bedouin regular Healing Force Project. Sounding like early 23 Skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, there's much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of Gravitational Lensing. It's all pretty out there, paranoid and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of "Random Walks" just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of "Apophenia" in the "top tracks" stakes. It might take a few plays to really sink in, but there's no doubt it's worth the effort.
